CEMG staffs one of the most active emergency departments in Southern California. Our physicians are board-certified, fellowship-trained, and supported by a Medical Center infrastructure that enables a level of care rarely available in a single emergency department.
Comprehensive evaluation and treatment for adult patients presenting with the full spectrum of emergency conditions — from minor injuries to life-threatening illness. Our physicians are board-certified in Emergency Medicine and available around the clock, 365 days a year. We see over 100,000 patients annually, with approximately 20,000 requiring inpatient admission.
Seven of our physicians hold fellowship training in Pediatric Emergency Medicine, supporting Miller Children's Hospital — a pediatric critical care center and EDAP-designated receiving facility. Unlike many emergency departments, Miller's accepts transfers of complex pediatric patients who cannot be accommodated elsewhere, making our team's depth of pediatric expertise critical.
LBMMC is a designated Level II Trauma Center for both adult and pediatric trauma, with 24-hour availability of surgical specialists, orthopedics, neurosurgery, and critical care. CEMG physicians serve as the first point of contact for trauma activations, coordinating resuscitation and disposition for patients arriving by ambulance, helicopter, and private vehicle.
CEMG staffs a designated receiving center for acute stroke and ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). Our physicians initiate rapid triage and activate direct catheterization lab and neurology response protocols — minimizing door-to-balloon and door-to-needle times where every minute of delay is measurable in outcomes.
One of a very limited number of emergency departments in Los Angeles County capable of receiving patients who require extracorporeal membrane oxygenation. ECMO is deployed for patients in refractory cardiac arrest or severe respiratory failure — representing the outer edge of resuscitative capability. Our team coordinates with perfusionists and critical care to manage these complex transfers.
CEMG is an authorized paramedic base station, providing medical oversight and direct radio medical control for EMS units throughout the service area. Our physicians are responsible for prehospital medical direction, protocol development, and real-time guidance for paramedic crews in the field — extending our clinical reach well beyond the walls of the ED.
A Level II Trauma Center provides comprehensive trauma care 24 hours a day, with immediate availability of surgical subspecialties and definitive care for most injuries.
EDAP designation certifies that an emergency department meets or exceeds LA County standards for pediatric emergency care — equipment, training, and physician qualifications.
